Wow, amazing takeoff video and engine sound! This bird, N417AA, was a blue cockpit MD-82. Its 3 sister ships, N424AA, N70425, and N426AA, all blue cockpit MD-82s like this one, stayed in service until August of 2018 and were the longest-flying MD-80s in the entire American Airlines fleet, as they flew for almost 32 years. Luckily, American will keep their MD-80s in service until September of this year.

What a remarkable transformation at Chicago Midway Airport with Southwest infrastructure investment. Remember the days of American Trans Air and Midway Airlines. The infrastructure was dated and worn when Southwest first came to midway. It was fun when Southwest flew into Detroit City Airport. Landings and takeoffs were like rolling past your usual neighborhood homes. So close on what appeared to be on the other side of the street.
